Motorcycle exhibition of the DDR Museum
Back to all places
Under six S-Bahn arches, the motorcycle exhibition of the DDR Museum shows over 130 motorcycles, sidecars, scooters and mopeds from 40 years of DDR two-wheeler production on an area of approx. 800 square meters.
Not only the notorious Swallows can be admired in the GDR Motorcycle Museum: The exhibits include two-wheelers from the companies IFA or MZ, Simson, IWL and EMW. Extensive information on the history of the manufacturers and the individual models allows visitors to take a look at the past of the two-wheeler.
A particular highlight is an escort motorbike with a GDR emblem that dates back to the Honecker era. Originally there were only about 60 of these motorcycles, but the exhibit is one of very few surviving examples. Three racing machines from the manufacturers DKW (steam-powered vehicle) and IFA (Industrial Association for Vehicle Construction) are also extremely rare.
In the cinema corner, visitors have the opportunity to see and hear the machines on display in action. In addition, posters, photographs, postcards, books and original two-wheeler accessories complete the exhibition.
